Analytical Science student Jennifer shares her experience of the course, campus facilities, and life in Aberdeen after moving from Nigeria for her postgraduate studies at RGU.

My name is Chijindu Jennifer Nweke, and I am from the eastern part of Nigeria. Over the years, I have been fascinated by how science can create tangible solutions that improve people’s lives. This passion led me to study Analytical Science with a focus on Drug Analysis and Toxicology at RGU.

I am particularly interested in understanding how substances, both beneficial and harmful, interact with the world around us and how we can leverage that knowledge to enhance safety and wellbeing.

RGU stood out to me because of its strong emphasis on applying science to solve real-world problems. I was looking for a course that would challenge me academically and provide me with practical skills for making a difference in fields like pharmaceuticals and toxicology. The hands-on lab work and the opportunity to explore emerging issues, such as the environmental impact of drugs, really appealed to me.

The highlight of my degree has been my final project. I studied how microplastics can act as carriers for pharmaceuticals, potentially transporting these compounds into the food web.

This is a fascinating and urgent issue and working on it felt incredibly rewarding. The project allowed me to combine my love for analytical techniques, environmental science, and real-world problem solving.

Absolutely! The campus at RGU has been a beautiful place to study. Being in Aberdeen, a city that blends both vibrant energy and the calm of nature, has created a perfect environment for my studies.

My favourite thing about the campus is how well-equipped the labs are. Having access to innovative technology and working in a professional environment has been an amazing experience. There is something special about working in the labs and watching your ideas come to life, it makes the whole experience incredibly fulfilling.

Beyond that, I also love the sense of community on campus. The support and encouragement from both classmates and staff have made my time here truly memorable.

Specialising in drug analysis and toxicology has given me the tools to address critical issues like the safety of pharmaceuticals and their environmental impact. The hands-on experience I have gained with techniques like mass spectrometry and chromatography has been invaluable.

I am confident that this degree has prepared me to take on challenges in fields like environmental toxicology, pharmaceuticals, and forensic science, and make a meaningful contribution to solving these complex problems.

Chijindu Jennifer Nweke

Studying MSc Analytical Science at RGU

Studying a master’s in Analytical Science with RGU’s lab facilities

The post Studying a master’s in Analytical Science on RGU’s campus appeared first on RGU Student Blog.

Analytical Science student Jennifer shares her experience of the course, campus facilities, and life in Aberdeen after moving from Nigeria for her postgraduate studies at RGU.
