My decision to transition from hospitality management to quantity surveying was driven by a desire for change and a longing to apply my existing skills to a new career path. The transition has been incredible, having found several parallels between my previous role and the world of quantity surveying.

Quantity surveying, as I’ve come to learn, encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, from managing finances and construction projects to recruiting subcontractors and overseeing budgets. However, what has truly captivated my interest are the opportunities to promote sustainable practices within the industry. In an era where sustainable consciousness is of upmost priority, I am passionate about exploring ways to minimize the environmental and social impact of construction projects and integrate sustainable practices into every aspect of my work.

Furthermore, my journey has introduced me to the diverse array of positions held by quantity surveyors. From cost consultants to project managers, quantity surveyors play many roles within the construction industry, each contributing unique expertise and insights to the projects they undertake. Exploring these diverse roles has broadened my understanding of the field and inspired me to envision a future where I can make meaningful contributions in various capacities.

Throughout my academic journey so far, I have been most grateful for the support and guidance provided by the lecturers at The Scott Sutherland School. Their dedication to student success and commitment to excellence have fostered an environment conducive to learning and personal growth. From academic mentors to industry experts, the support network at RGU has been invaluable in shaping my understanding of quantity surveying and preparing me for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
